Reduce ignition risk while protecting assets

Fire risk is a growing concern across electric utility, oil and gas, renewable energy, and data center infrastructure—where a single ignition event can have serious operational, financial, and safety consequences. Edko’s fire mitigation services are designed to reduce ignition potential and protect critical assets by establishing and maintaining vegetation-free zones around equipment in fire-prone areas. Our programs are built for year-round execution, with a proactive focus on preparing sites ahead of peak fire seasons in late winter/early spring and again in late summer and early fall.

Creating and Maintaining Defensible Space

We combine detailed site inspections with targeted vegetation control strategies to create and sustain effective firebreaks. This includes:

• Manual clearing via hand or light mechanical tools
• Non-selective or selective herbicide applications, dependent on desire of the customer or environment
• When necessary, the planning and deployment of mechanical resources for site reclamation

Firebreaks are maintained to a minimum 10-foot radius around asset structures, with all generated debris either redistributed outside the zone or removed based on land use requirements. When site constraints prevent compliance, those exceptions are clearly documented and communicated to the client, ensuring full visibility and risk awareness.
